Why a Tailored Cover Letter is Important
Every job has on average at least 100 job applicants or more. A hiring manager will spend on average 6- 10 seconds reviewing your resume and cover letter. The importance of a tailored cover letter is critical as it shows you have tkaen the time to reasearch about the organisation you are applying for but also allows you to highlight your personal attributes, values and what sets you apart from your competitors on top of your experience and education.
The cover letter is often the difference between you being shortlisted for an interview or being declined. As a Hiring Manager, I will not shortlist a candidate where the cover letter looks like its been used for multiple applications. The importance of tailoring your cover letter to the job you are applying will significantly increase your chances of the employer shortlisting you for an interview.
Its important in your cover letter that you connect with the employer more on a personal level, dont just repeat what is already in your Resume. What is going to make you the star employee, celebrating achievements, awards and help further convince the employer why you will be the best person for the job.
Thank the employer for their time and consideration, and that you would welcome the opportunity of an interview.
Did you know on average 49% of employers say that a strong tailored cover letter has convinced them to interview a candidate who may in comparison have a relatively weak resume.
